Job summary

We are looking for a locum consultant to join our team for a 12 month fixed term period. The position is for one day a week (2 PAs) on Tuesdays.

The post-holder will join our team of over 10 consultant staff with a focus on supervising our MClinDent Endodontic Students as they both assess and treat patients on clinic.The post-holder will also cover our walk in Dental Trauma service.

Main duties of the job

Together with the other consultant and specialist staff to provide a service for endodontics and acute dental trauma. This includes all aspects of postgraduate training, treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.

Responsible also for covering colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.

Provide clinical supervision of junior staff, postgraduate students as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.

Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.

Job responsibilities

This is a Locum Consultant post. The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multidisciplinary team providing and further developing care for dental patients from dental services, and to provide and develop dental services to the Trusts patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

Major areas of dental referrals in the Trust include restorative dentistry, endodontics and acute dental trauma. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.

PURPOSE OF JOB

The post will be based at Denmark Hill and the proposed 2 PA Job Plan is attached. This will be reviewed within 3 months of the postholder commencing in post.

The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multidisciplinary team providing and further developing care for restorative dentistry with an emphasis on multidisciplinary care for patients referred to Kings. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trusts patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following:-

  • The provision of a first class clinical service
  • Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Kings College London
  • Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies
  • Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans
  • Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust

All employees are expected to undertake work on any of the Trusts sites as required by the service.
