Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week

An opportunity has arisen for a part time Medical Secretary Band 3 in the Cellular Pathology Department which sits within the Diagnostics Division at the Countess of Chester Hospital. In this role the post holder will provide secretarial and administrative support to the Consultant Histopathologists and wider laboratory team.

We are looking for a dedicated, experienced, highly motivated and computer literate individual to provide a high standard of audio typing/clerical support. The successful candidate must be able to work using their own initiative, but also as part of a team.

Excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills are essential for this role, along with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.

A working knowledge of general office procedures and Microsoft packages is required, but full training will be given in the use of EPR+ software and other related systems. Knowledge of medical terminology would also be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

You will contribute and commit to promoting a positive team-based attitude, striving for the highest standards of service and achieving excellence by providing a comprehensive secretarial service and administration support for the department.

You will be expected to work with minimum supervision but within a close-knit team. All work must be carried out in a timely and accurate manner, with confidentiality being maintained at all times.

Some of the main duties of the job include:

  • The typing of Histopathological and post mortem reports.
  • The coordination and meticulous recording of material sent from, and received into, the department.
  • The coordination of material for multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Handling of incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Dealing with enquiries to the department.
  • Keeping a comprehensive filing system of forms, reports and other paperwork.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
