Working Full time : 40 hours per week plus additional rostered hours in accordance with the rota pattern for each rotation.
The post duration is 12months commencing asap until 4th August 2026. This post will indlude rotations in Surgery and Medicine. The posts will include on call element as part of the role.
This placement will provide the individual with the generic and acute care skills to be able to identify and manage the acutely ill patient. Foundation training at the Countess has been designed to not only fulfil the requirements of the curriculum but also to ensure that post holders can develop professionally in a supportive and friendly environment.
This post does not have post graduate deanery educational approval however the post holder will gain from experience at F1 level and be afforded the opportunity to participate in educational activities and achieve standard competencies for the grade.
Applicants must have a primary medical qualification (ie MBBS or equivalent) and full GMC registration with a licence to practice. Experience of working within an NHS Hospital essential at minimum of a Clinical Attachment.
Main duties of the job
Duties of the F1 Post
- Admission, clerking and continuing care of emergency and elective patients and ensuring that appropriate investigations are carried out.
- Present details of patients on the emergency take and the regular ward rounds by senior and other staff.
- Attendance at educational meetings is expected and case presentations may be requested.
- Foundation doctors have a valuable role to play in the teaching of Medical Students from Liverpool University, and occasionally those on elective placements.
- Maintaining accurate, quality, patient records, and requesting and charting results, facilitated by the latest IT systems.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
