Job summary
Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable, self-motivated individuals to join our pharmacy team as Pre-registration pharmacy technicians.
- This is a fixed term (2 year) contract
- To be considered you MUST hold at least four GCSEs at grade C (or above) in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, and another Science or similar qualifications e.g. dual Science (to include Chemistry and Biology or BTEC First Certificate in Science). You must be able to provide the original certificates (or certified copies) of the above.
What this Opportunity means:
- A two year funded training programme which on successful completion of you will possess a BTEC level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians and meet the General Pharmaceutical Council requirements for professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician. Following qualification and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council you will be able to work as a Pharmacy Technician in a wide range of areas wherever medicines are needed.

Main duties of the job
Pharmacy technicians and trainee pharmacy technicians are vital members of the healthcare team at the Countess of Chester Hospital, you will be training and working in a constantly changing environment where good practical skills and knowledge are essential. You will spend time in the dispensary, aseptic unit, pharmacy procurement and on the wards.
You will rotate through the pharmacy department to the dispensary, pharmacy stores and procurement and aseptic services. Your training will be supported by our team of in-house assessors enabling you to gain practical experience in the tasks required of pharmacy technicians by performing technical duties for the ordering, preparation, dispensing, issuing, distribution and stock control of pharmaceutical preparations under the supervision of a pharmacy technician or pharmacist.
About us
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
