An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant post in the Urology department of the Planned Care Directorate at The Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust. This is a full time (10 PA), fixed term role. The emphasis of the post is to provide a Specialist Urology service along with the other 4 Consultant Urological Surgeons who work across the directorate to provide outpatients, diagnostics, day case and inpatient surgery.

They will be expected to take part in local and national audits of surgical outcomes and will be expected to recruit to national trials and publish outcomes. Main duties of the job

This post is essential to meet the increased demand in Urology and maintain the quality of the management of urological disease, continue the provision of emergency urology care and work with the team to develop the service to meet demand

BMA guidance states that a full-time Consultant (10 PA's per week) will typically undertake an average of 2.5 SPAs per week. Therefore, 2.5 SPAs per Consultant is neither a minimum nor a maximum [See 3] This premise is held by the Trust and is the starting point for SPA discussions at job planning.

The Trust recognises the importance of SPA and places no restriction upon it, provided it is demonstrable in terms of output and agreed to align with Trust objectives. These objectives and the PA allocation will be mutually agreed.
