Specialty Doctor in General Medicine
Working Full Time: 10 Sessions Per Week
The post will provide a wide experience in Medicine together with exposure to a number of sub-specialities in a supportive environment. You will be expected to work at a post IMT2 level within all areas of the General Medicine. It is ideal opportunity for those intending to make a career in hospital medicine.
Candidates shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or
Have equivalent experience and competencies.
Main duties of the job
- Assist Consultant Physicians in the care of medical patients on the wards.
- Participating in ward rounds, assessing and reviewing patients medical and 'Outlying' wards and co-ordinating with other specialities where required.
- Independent ward rounds where consultant post-take complete.
- Performing practical procedures and supervising/teaching practical procedures for junior trainees
- Provide support and guidance to junior doctors in performing daily clinical activities.
- Expediting and acting upon investigations
- Assisting in the facilitation of early discharge where appropriate
- Perform relevant clinical tasks to facilitate discharge e.g. completing Electronic Discharge form
- Participation in the teaching rota for the Division
- Co-ordinating with allied healthcare professionals (pharmacist, healthcare assistants and therapists) on the wards to ensure effective patients care and smooth functioning of the unit.
- Participation in departmental audit/QI
- Opportunities to gain experience in the areas of the General Medicine consultants' special interest where rota allows.
- Teaching of medical and physician associate students
- Other appropriate duties and responsibilities like junior doctor's rota management

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. - The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility

This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
