This is a full-time (10 PA) appointment. The candidate will integrate into the team of existing consultants to provide a complete anaesthesia and intensive care service. This post has arisen from a vacancy in the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain and will add resilience to ICU consultant staffing.
The job plan will include sessions in intensive care, elective anaesthesia and on call cover for ICU. The appointed consultant will support the provision of elective and emergency anaesthesia, including engagement in pre-operative assessment and MDT meetings. The successful candidate will have an interest in intensive care medicine with anaesthesia to support and further develop the service.
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will be responsible for providing Intensive Care cover along with the other Intensivists. Currently all the Intensivists are also anaesthetists who provide elective and emergency anaesthesia care when not on their Intensive Care hot weeks or on the ICU. The on call commitment will be 1:11 (including this post) to cover the Intensive Care on call rota. The successful candidate will work a 10 PA contract with 1.5 SPA included to meet the needs for appraisal and revalidation. By mutual agreement additional SPA sessions may be granted for specific career development or departmental roles. Each theatre session will be 1.25 PA which includes pre- and post-operative visiting with 1.5 PA allocated for on-call duties.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
