The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity to join us as our Deputy Director of Nursing & Quality Governance.

A commitment to improve clinical outcomes and personal experiences of patients and service users by developing and embedding risk management systems and processes, education and training strategies and promoting a quality-focused and just culture.
Working closely with the wider senior leadership team to enhance the Trusts performance against a range of commissioning and regulatory requirements and building sustainability in professional, quality governance and risk.
Main duties of the job
1. The post holder is responsible for facilitating multi-disciplinary working through the integration of professional practice and working relationships among all health care professionals within the Trust. To be able to manage conflicting views to a negotiated settlement or understanding of desired outcome.2. To lead the Risk team working in partnership with the Divisions on the PSIRF and SI process.3. To lead the Patient and Family Support team- ensure a robust process is in place for the answering of complaints and PALS.4. Collaborative working with stakeholders that include ICB - facilitating commissioner quality meetings were needed.5. Act as an advocate for the Trust, internally and externally, promoting the delivery of the highest level of patient care.6. Work with the Divisional Directors of Nursing in understanding staff experience, setting improvements and monitoring improvement outcomes.7. To lead the Trust wide framework for the assessment of standards.8. To Implement Nursing Reviews on In Patient Deaths.9. To lead and support the development of a culture of continuous improvement in quality and patient and family centered care. Specifically, to ensure that recommendations from serious and other incidents are implemented across the Directorates.10. Undertake audits that are focused on improving the outcomes for patients, families and carers to ensure the highest professional standards of practice are adhered to.
About us
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
