Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Up to 12 Month Fixed-term post

The final job plan will be agreed in discussion between the successful candidate and the Clinical Leads for Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to join our Obstetrics & Gynaecology team as it moves into the new Women's and Children's Division at The Countess of Chester Hospital. Applicants are invited for a locum Consultant post in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The successful candidate will join an existing team of 13 dynamic consultants.

We are looking for a candidate who can integrate well into the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. You will be expected to deliver clinical excellence and demonstrate a strong commitment to multi-professional working. You will need to demonstrate how your skill mix will help the department thrive and develop. The candidate will be expected to deliver General Obstetrics and Gynaecology services within the department and participate in the on-call rota on a 1:12 basis.

We are open to applicants with any area of special interest and are keen to support in the development of this. It is also expected that the successful candidate would take an active role in the various local, regional and national quality and safety agendas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with opportunities over time to develop leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be responsible for the care of patients referred by general practitioners, midwives, A&E departments and will undertake clinics, ward rounds and operating sessions 'programmed activities' as appropriate. Specific colposcopy responsibilities will be agreed with the Colposcopy Consultant Lead upon appointment.

The appointee will support their consultant colleagues in providing a general Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service. The appointee is expected to have specialist expertise to complement the existing specialities in the Department. They would be responsible for providing professional leadership in Obstetrics and Gynaecology care, promoting the development of evidence based clinical practice and guidelines, and ensuring the continued introduction of the necessary elements of clinical governance in the Services.

  • MRCOG or equivalent
