This is a level 7 PGDip programmefor nurses seeking to qualify in the field of district nursing.Please note holidays are timetabled within the programme with no flexibility

Entry Requirements:

Candidates must be:

  • Have an NMC-valid registration as a registered adult nurse
  • Currently working in Community Nursing
  • Recent study at level 6 (evidence required)
  • Minimum one years post registration experienceat the point of the programme commencing
  • Up to date with mandatory training
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check- This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Apprentices will be seconded on their current pay band for the duration of the apprenticeship. Upon being shortlisted, candidates will be expected to undertake a numeracy assessment. Candidates will be expected to pass this assessment with the pass rate being 80%.

Main duties of the job

To provide holistic, high quality, safe and skilled health and social care / support to patients, carers and their families

The programme is designed to prepare the individual to undertake the following duties:

  • To have overall responsibility for the assessment, planning, provision and evaluation of District Nursing Care as detailed in the District Nursing Specification.
  • To provide effective management and leadership to all members of the nursing team, including recruitment, supervision, appraisal, training and development.
  • To contribute to and actively participate in service development based on identified needs and driven by the national and local health care agendas.
  • To prescribe effectively as a non-medical prescriber.
  • To be able to work at an advanced level of clinical decision making.

Apprentices will strengthen their leadership attributes; become skilful specialist practitioners; and learn how to lead and bring about change in their practice environments

  • All successful graduates receive a Postgraduate Diploma for Community Nursing Specialist Practitioner Qualification in the field of District Nursing with Integrated Independent and Supplementary Prescribing (V300) at Level 7.
  • Graduates also receive 120 level 7 credits and the opportunity to top up to a MSc Specialist Community Nursing (self funding route)
