East Cheshire NHS Trust has an opening for an enthusiastic and driven junior doctor who has an interest in medical education. The successful post holder will be involved in the design and delivery of education to undergraduate medical students from the University of Manchester and the University of Buckingham. Attached to the post is a fully funded post-graduate certificate in medical education (or equivalent) with protected time for the completion of coursework.
The trust is recruiting for up to three Education Fellows that may work between 0.6 and 1.0 whole time equivalent. The post holder may join the trust bank to work flexibly alongside the post, which can be further discussed at interview stage.
The successful candidates will join a rapidly expanding and growing team and work closely alongside the current education fellows remaining in post. The successful post holders may be expected to integrate clinical work into their job plan, involving supporting the delivery of education for students in ward areas. The form this will take and specialty areas involved will be discussed further at interview.
Hours per week: 37.5
Main duties of the job
Typical duties include:
- The delivery of education to medical students through lectures, simulation, clinical skills, bedside teaching and patient assessment teaching, as well as supporting students in clinical areas.
- Acting as a role model to students and encouraging them to meet their academic commitments.
- Supporting student physician associates, locally employed doctors and international medical graduates where appropriate.
- Supporting with foundation teaching where appropriate.
- Contributing to the design of teaching programmes for medical students at various stages of training
- Working alongside consultant leads to ensure the pastoral needs of students are met.
- Identifying concerns amongst students and working with senior colleagues to support issues.
- Supporting named supervisors of students with assessments, upskilling and development plans for multiple cohorts of learners.
- Participating in UGME/PGME team meetings for the benefit of medical education across the trust.
- Being an advocate for quality improvement and medical education across all working environments.
- Working under the supervision of consultant leads in medical education and education fellows in post
