Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced clerical officer to deal with clerical and related issues arising from the death of a patient.

To ensure that all necessary documentation is completed correctly and that the deceased's belongings are available on time for collection by relatives.

To be sensitive to the needs of the relatives both on the telephone and in person.

This post is to be worked 15 hours a week over 2 days. Days negotiable.

Main duties of the job

Daily contact the Mortuary for information regarding deceased patients. Dependent on the information provided, action in the following areas will be undertaken:

  • The death will be recorded in a register - highlighted to indicated special categories e.g. deaths in A&E.
  • Obtain death certificate by reference to doctor - being aware of implications of the issue of such a certificate i.e. certificate for immediate issues, Part A - notified to the Coroner or a full Coroner's case.
  • Ascertain if there is to be a burial or cremation. Prepare cremation forms as appropriate.
  • Ensure that Mortuary receive appropriate release notes.

  • Typing qualifications to RSAII standard.
  • Computer literate to ECDL standard or equivalent.

  • AMSPAR Diploma
  • RSA III standard

  • Medical terminology
  • Fast and accurate typing
  • Good communicator - able to deal with people at all levels.
