Job summary

Taking responsibility for the plaster room in the orthopaedic fracture clinic.

Using own expertise to deliver an excellent standard of care to patients in the fracture clinic.

To be responsible for the training of clinic staff and maintain competences, be aware of the latest best practice and resources to provide a safe and competent service.

30 Hours per week

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the orthopaedic team demonstrating expertise in casting and plastering techniques. To provide technical and professional support in other clinical areas within the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high standard of care including undertaking specialist casting and splinting procedures. The post holder will work unsupervised using their own initiative and make appropriate clinical decisions. The post holder would be expected to test new products and equipment and report findings. The post holder will be the lead specialist for the trust in casting.

  • Certified Orthopaedic practitioner
  • 12 months post qualification
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Hold British Orthopaedic Association Casting Certificate or British Casting Certificate

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification or NVQ 3 in relevant subject

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Effective communicator, able to provide and receive complex, sensitive information where there may be barriers to communication and understanding.
  • Able to work without supervision and use own initiative. Able to make appropriate clinical decisions referring patients for onward management as necessary. Sound clinical skills (wound care, removal or stitches, clips and K-wires.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload
  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to use own initiative within set operational guidelines

  • Previous experience in teaching/training.
