An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Strategic Planning Officer to join our small and friendly Strategy Team. The role supports delivery of the trusts strategic programme of work, including support to the Finance Directorate. The role will provide an interesting and varied workload and would ideally suit an enthusiastic and adaptable individual. The successful applicant will have extensive opportunities to develop your existing skills as well as learning new transferable skills within a healthcare provider setting, influencing, and delivering real change for the benefit of patients.

This role is Fixed Term for 6 months

Hours per Week: 35

Main duties of the job

Accountable to the Strategic Planning Practitioner the post holder will provide strategic planning facilitation and support for the production and management of a programme of work supporting the key strategic issues.

These will include integrated business plans, clinical service reviews, and the development of alternative service models, provider collaborations, the annual service, workforce and financial plan and appraisal of local and national health and social care policy.

Person Specification



  • NHS experience
  • Experience in project management working
  • Experience of supporting service redesign and change in the working environment



  • Ability to manage multiple/diverse complex tasks requiring analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to senior stakeholders and a broad range of stakeholders as required
  • Ability to prioritise and manage demanding workloads, working to tight and often changing timescales
  • Good expertise in Project Management methods and tools
  • Able to work with clinicians and non-clinicians face to face and on the phone



  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications, NHS information systems, data collection research and analysis
  • Project management methodology
  • An appreciation of the changed NHS landscape and national policy


  • Service improvement techniques



  • Degree or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
