Job summary

North Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation trust requires highly motivated Estates Maintenance Team Workshop Manager, based within the Estates departments at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. The post is a proactive role within the Estates Maintenance & Engineering management team, providing, cost effective, efficient and compliant building services engineering maintenance service ensuring the Trusts built environment complies with legislation and good practice.

The Maintenance Workshop Team Manager role provides effective management and leadership for the in-house (direct labour) Estates Operational Maintenance Team. The principal objective of the role is to manage and oversee the day-to-day supervision of the operational mechanical, electrical, building and grounds maintenance team, ensuring planned preventative maintenance schedules are completed, additional work streams are coordinated and completed in a timely and cost effective manner, ensuring that patient care environments are being maintained utilising both computer aided facilities management (CAFM) and standard NHS performance management platforms. The post contributes to ensuring the Trusts building maintenance objectives are carried out in a safe, cost effective, efficient manner, conversant with health, safety and fire acts, building maintenance legislation, NHS Health Technical Memorandums (HTM), Health Building Notes (HBN), British Standards and approved codes of practice.

Main duties of the job

The Maintenance Workshop Team Manager is an integral role in the Estates Engineering Maintenance Services provision and supports the wider clinical and patient teams, to provide health care services to our local communities.The post holder will encourage team working, by providing the varied skills that support the department's philosophy and flexible working ethos. The role isto lead and manage a team of Multiskilled Craftsperson's, Single Trade Craftsperson's and Maintenance Assistants, in the day-to-day maintenance and engineering functions of the hospital.The post holder will manage and supervise all works relating to the planned preventative maintenance and repairs across the acute hospital site, which includes a number of individual properties, healthcare and commercial buildings, containing a vast array of building services plant and equipment. In addition, the post holder will work with the estates engineering officers and technicians to ensure allbuilding fabrics, grounds & gardens are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements including the Safe Building Act, NHS England Health Technical Memorandum's, Health Building Notices, Trust Policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe and functional environment for patients, public and staff to support the delivery of patient care.

  • Supervise multiskilled craftspersons to diagnosis analyze complex critical equipment and systems, escalate findings and work with Estates Officers to arrange necessary remedial action where appropriate considering a range of options and safety issues to effect repairs using cause and effect analysis and detailed examination to gain a solution.
  • Use of specialist tools to diagnose and monitor complex systems with good understanding of building management systems to complete tasks.
  • Assist with completion of planned preventative maintenance tasks which will include lifting and maintaining both heavy and delicate equipment.
  • Quality check by monitoring and ensure that all work carried out by trade staff is carried out to acceptable quality standards in accordance with the departments Labour Management System. This will include visiting wards and departments and involve incidental contact with patients on a day-to-day basis to ensure all buildings, plant and equipment is fully functional to allow the highest standard of care to be provided.
  • Have good computer literacy skills using Microsoft 365, word, excel, teams, outlook daily to regularly update NHS ESR software platforms, Human Resource, Workforce & Recruitments platforms Financial Management Systems and Building Management Systems (Continuum and Delta software platforms).
  • Able to interrogate the Trusts Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) platform, retrieve information to generate progress and performance reports to enable monitoring of performance targets, present analysis and form action plans if required.
