Job summary

Children's Services at SGH are undergoing change and development and are looking for dynamic, forward thinking Specialty Doctors to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to influence the future of paediatric and neonatal care and deliver excellent quality outcomes to children in the locality. The post available is on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2025.

We have benefited from capital investment and offer modern, clean and expert environments for both staff and patients. Children's Services are based in a new modern building with bespoke ward facilities and a new dedicated Children's Out-Patient department.

We are looking for an individual with a minimum of 4 years (FTE or equivalent) postgraduate training in the UK (or equivalent training) of which at least one year of training must be in Paediatrics. Full GMC registration and a licence to practice is required at the time of application.A full shift rota is in place. Previous experience in Paediatrics may be recognised for salary purposes. The post is supported with a junior shift rota.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to junior doctors and medical students
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Trust's and Operational Group's services plans

  • To provide effective leadership while supporting the junior trainees and nurse practitioners in assessing and managing patients from acute paediatric admissions, outpatients, central delivery suite, postnatal ward and neonatal unit.
  • Participate in consultant led ward rounds and occasionally lead ward rounds.
  • Attend clinics to maintain a high standard of first class clinical service and care and ensure continuity of service.
  • Administrative duties as required for the efficient running of the service.
  • Participate in audit and any appropriate programme of research which is being conducted in the department.
  • You will be encouraged to develop or maintain a special interest, with the support of the consultants.
  • Contribute to the programme of post-graduate activities, medical students and nursing staff within the department.
  • Partake in additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances

Job responsibilities

Youll assume a general paediatric and neonatal role within the Paediatrics specialty with responsibility for the day-to-day care and management of a diverse and challenging mix of paediatric/neonatal patients based within a friendly, well staffed and extensively resourced unit. You will also work as part of the acute rota and work on the wards and outpatient department, including specialist clinics.

This post is part of a full shift rota and paid on the Specialty Doctor payscale. Previous equivalent service in Paediatrics may be recognised for salary purposes.
