In 2023/24 there were 2,121 deliveries in the maternity unit. The maternity provides LDRP (labour, delivery, recovery and postnatal) model of maternity care. There is consultant anaesthetist cover during working hours and a 24-hour epidural service is in operation. A robust midwifery team support the maternity service providing services in a hospital setting. There are advanced nurse practitioners and advanced midwifery practitioners incorporating in the medical rota. DPOW obstetrics and gynaecology training have been rated one of the highest in England at the national training survey in the last 2 years. We provide 60 hours on site consultant present at both acute sites.

We have facilities for outpatient hysteroscopy, outpatient operative hysteroscopy, ambulatory urogynaecology, colposcopy, early pregnancy assessment, pregnancy advisory including the provision of medical terminations, and preoperative assessment. Preoperative assessment, medical terminations and early pregnancy assessment are nurse led with medical support and oversight. We also have a fully functioning and busy day care unit in operation.

Laparoscopic setup is well developed at all three sites of the hospitals and the department provides comprehensive laparoscopic choices for most Gynaecology procedures. NLAG is an accredited endometriosis Centre.

The department provides ATSM training for labour ward, benign gynaecology, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, colposcopy, and urogynaecology.

Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• MRCOG or equivalent

Eligibility

Essential

• Full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• Undertaken programme of training acceptable to the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist for appointment to Consultant Status
• ATSM in Laparoscopic surgery or equivalent
• ATSM in Acute gynaecology and early pregnancy or equivalent

Desirable

• Entry on the Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within six months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights

Language Skills

Essential

• applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English
• have the following scores in the academic lnternational English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall 7.5, Speaking 7.5, Listening 7.5, Reading 7.5, Writing 7.5

Knowledge/ Understanding

Essential

• Appropriate to the holding of a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the principles of Clinical Governance
