Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join an established integrated team of podiatrists working in North East and North Lincolnshire. We are looking for a self-motivated, friendly and enthusiastic individual to join use as an assistant podiatrist.
We are a small but dynamic team comprised of podiatrists, podiatry assistants and lab technicians based at Scartho Medical Centre, Grimsby and the Ironstone Centre, Scunthorpe covering local clinics.
Some previous experience working within a podiatry setting is desirable.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will independently treat allocated patients referred to the service when they have completed the relevant competencies to do so. The caseload of patients treated will have been triaged or assessed by registered practitioners prior to allocation. They will work jointly with the therapists or other assistants to provide interventions with patients who have more complex needs.
The post holder will assist podiatrists to carry out foot care according to standard procedures and directions. Complete dressing changes for complex wounds following the direction of a podiatrist management plan and using initiative to seek the guidance of a podiatrist when a change may be indicated, before a planned review.
The post holder will assist in nail surgery, following strict aseptic procedures. Manufacture and fit orthotic devices and advise patients on footwear.
The post holder will play an important role in promoting healthy lifestyles, educating patients on a podiatrist-directed exercise programme. To undertake a basic re-assessment at each appointment, evaluating symptoms and observations to inform the appropriate care required. To decide when to seek the support/guidance of a podiatrist.
