Job summary

This post is based within the MSK Physiotherapy and Hand Therapy Dept at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital Grimsby and involves the delivery of therapeutic intervention to those who require rehabilitation following injury or illness. The post holder will become a valued part of an integrated physiotherapy and occupational therapy team providing a service to those attending the Out-Patient Physiotherapy and Hand Therapy department. The aim of this service is to work with patients, families and the wider multidisciplinary team to improve function following injury or illness and assist in self-management of long term conditions.

Regular clinical supervision and an in-house training programme will be provided to enable the post holder to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake the role competently and confidently. This post combines administrative and patient facing clinical responsibilities including assessment, treatment and discharge planning once an appropriate level of competence has been demonstrated.

This post offers the challenges and rewards of working with people to maintain or restore function, maximise rehabilitation potential and plan for long-term management. High levels of personal resilience, self-motivation and professionalism are required to maintain a person-centred, compassionate focus in the fast paced and demanding environment of a busy out-patient setting.

Main duties of the job

ADMINISTRATIVE AND CLERICAL

Answer the telephone, take and pass on messages to the appropriate member of staff and make calls as required.

Record patient information, make patient appointments and arrange ambulance transport as necessary.

Where contributions are made to patient records use SOAP format or relevant care pathway.

Retrieve and return medical records, x-rays, etc. and information requested from other areas (i.e. library, printers, etc.) when required.

Retrieve, return and record equipment loans in and out of department and other areas (e.g. Wheelchair Services, Assisted Living Centre) as required.

Collect and collate statistics as related to the service.

Input data on computer, liaising with staff as appropriate.

Order stocks and supplies as directed.

Perform other clerical duties such as photocopying and filing of documents as required.

Use computer programmes as required.

HOUSE KEEPING

Clean, tidy and repair therapy equipment as directed to maintain its operational condition.

Routinely assist in keeping the clinical area/department tidy and clean.

Maintain hygiene and safety in all treatment areas as required.

Prepare treatment areas and clean afterwards as required.

To understand your responsibilities under and to adhere to all Trust Policies and Statutory requirements such as Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, COSSH, Fire Safety, Complaints and Accident Reporting.
