Senior Training Fellow Vascular Surgery

Fixed term from start date for 24 months

An opportunity is available to join the Vascular Surgical team based in one of the UK's major teaching hospitals at an exciting time in its history. University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) has a specialist vascular surgery unit and is hub of the Staffordshire and South Cheshire Vascular Network serving most of Staffordshire and South Cheshire. The arterial hub is at Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH) Stoke-on-Trent with spoke sites at Leighton Hospital Crewe, Queens Hospital Burton and County Hospital Stafford. This is a replacement post in what is one of the largest vascular networks in England.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team working at registrar level alongside specialist training registrars allocated to the unit. The job undertaken will be the same as for a Specialist Registrar training post in the unit for both elective and emergency work.

Clinical responsibilities will include attending outpatient clinics, inpatient and day case theatre sessions, doing ward rounds as well as participating in specialist activities. Theatre activity would include both assisting in surgery as well as undertaking procedures under supervision or independently as appropriate.

Post holders will be required to follow the surgical curriculum at an appropriate level and study for a higher degree. This post is suitable for trainees who already have experience in the wanting out of programme experience. You will also participate in the registrar on call rota on a 1 : 6 basis.

Applicants must be registered with the GMC and show evidence of experience in vascular and endovascular surgery. A place on the Specialist register would be an advantage
