Advanced Clinical Lead Pharmacist – Emergency Medicine

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a dynamic pharmacist to lead our Clinical Pharmacy Service to Acute and Emergency Medicine.

You will lead an amazing team of Advanced Specialist Pharmacists, Foundation Pharmacists, Medicines Management Technicians and Medicines Management Assistants, proving the best possible care to Acute and Emergency Medicine. You will work across our Royal Stoke University Hospital & County Hospital sites, leading the pharmacy service to our Acute Care Clinical Business Unit, which includes a ward based pharmacy service to the following departments:

  • Emergency Departments (one ED per site)
  • AMU's (one AMU per site)
  • Acute Medicine Rapid Assessment Unit (AMRA)
  • Short Stay Unit (SSU)
  • Frailty EAU

You will also work alongside our Advanced Clinical Lead Pharmacist for Respiratory/Gastroenterology and our Advanced Clinical Lead Pharmacist for General Medicine, to drive forward the Pharmacy Service to the wider Unplanned (Medicine) Care Group and implement new innovative ways of working.

Main duties of the job

Be a visible pharmacy leader and role model with the accountability and responsibility for the provision and development of safe and cost-effective pharmacy services to Acute & Emergency Medicine.

Lead a team of highly skilled pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy staff working to deliver cutting edge pharmacy services to patients.

Support the further develop of the clinical pharmacy workforce including the role of Medicines Management Technicians and Medicines Management Assistants.

Develop a strategic plan for the operational delivery of clinical pharmacy services to Acute & Emergency Medicine, supporting a positive patient experience and the medicines optimisation agenda.

Seek and implement timely initiatives to reduce missed doses of time critical medicines, improve safety, improve service delivery and improve patient flow.

Work as an independent prescriber on in-patient wards and/or in outpatient clinics.

  • Able to lead and deliver a specialist clinical pharmacy service
  • Able to present written information clearly, concisely and accurately
  • Experience of leading a specialist clinical team
  • Recognised as undertaking peer review activities within working practice
