Band 8a Advanced Specialist Pharmacist - Cancer Services, County.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic pharmacist to join an established team of Specialist Clinical Pharmacists to support cancer patients. You will be part of the wider Pharmacy Cancer Team and joint Lead at the satellite pharmacy on the Cancer Unit at the County. You will provide clinical services to the out-patient clinics, local hospice and clinical trials.

The County Cancer Unit has a nurse led 16 chaired, four bedded out-patient day unit. The Cancer Centre at the Royal Stoke site consists of a 40 bedded in-patient ward, a 27 chaired out-patient area and four linear accelerators. The Acute Oncology Service is across both sites with a dedicated Emergency Admissions Bay at the Royal Stoke. Electronic prescribing has recently been introduced at County and is well established across Adult (ARIA) Cancer Services.

UHNM is a Cancer Centre including Level 3 haematology and also a Myeloma UK Centre of Excellence. The clinical trials team based on the Cancer Centre manage a broad portfolio of both commercial and non-commercial trials.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a comprehensive and consistently high-quality clinical pharmacy service and medicines management service to cancer patients
  • Work with the Cancer Pharmacy team at County and Cancer Team Leaders to review clinical pathways and services
  • Be responsible for specific disease sites, develop further specialist knowledge and forge links with specialist centres
  • Clinically screen SACT prescriptions according to locally agreed standards, following a period of competency-based training in line with the British Oncology Pharmacy Association SACT Passport to Level 3
  • Undertake further education to become a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber (PIP). To practice as a PIP, as required
  • Deliver pharmacy elements of cancer clinical trials
  • Involved in the implementation of relevant local, network and national standards
  • Involved in obtaining and assuring the correct funding, including the cancer drugs fund (CDF), individual funding requests (IFRs), early access to medicine schemes (EAMS).

  • Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma / MSc or equivalent Qualification or evidence of equivalent experience or training
  • Independent Prescriber with appropriate annotation on GPhC register or willing to undertake appropriate training to become an active independent prescriber

Desirable

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB)
  • Member of British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA)
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification
  • Formal management and / or leadership qualification

  • Comprehensive experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner including a solid grounding in a broad range of clinical specialties
  • Experience working as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting
  • Clinical pharmacy experience within chemotherapy/Cancer services and an enthusiasm to develop this
  • Commitment and evidence of professional updating and formal continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Computer literate and able to use Windows applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and internet

  • Experience working with clinical trials and knowledge of the regulations relating to them
  • Evidence of involvement in pharmacy practice research and/or audit
  • High standard of oral and written (including report writing) communication skills with attention to detail
