Apprentice Assistant Audiology Practitioner

Job summary

Based in the Hearing and Balance Centre at Royal Stoke, this exciting opportunity involves supporting the clinical team to deliver a wide range of sub- specialty services including; routine, complex adult and paediatric audiology, vestibular assessment and rehabilitation and hearing therapy. The post holder will be responsible for implementing infection prevention measures, assisting with stock control and assisting with administration of clinical procedures.

The role involves enrolment onto the fully funded Level 2 Apprenticeship course run by CRS, which is an online training course running for sixteen months.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform routine hearing aid repairs to adult and paediatric audiology patients
  • Meet and greet patients and families and escort them to the clinic room
  • Under supervision, perform the role of assistant in paediatric audiological assessment and rehabilitation, by actively engaging with children to support successful outcomes
  • Assist the Audiologist with rehabilitation of patients with hearing loss, including sign posting, advice, providing hearing aid information and accessories and following individual patient care plans
  • Process messages from Audiologists direct phone line/email from internal and external health professionals and parents/guardians of paediatric patients.
  • Assist with equipment set-up, room preparation and daily calibration of equipment
  • In conjunction with the Audiologists, be responsible for infection control within department protocols
  • Assist with invoices, stock control and audit of stock.
  • Provide support to the Assistant Audiologists with the maintenance of an organised, clean stock room.
  • Be responsible for the processing, despatch, registration and filing of departmental ear moulds and, using appropriate recording mechanisms as implemented by Head of Service and/or Audiologist.
  • Under the supervision of the Assistant Audiologist, be responsible for arranging external repair/replacement of faulty hearing aid
  • Assist in maintenance of other departmental data recording systems, databases, and filing systems

The Audiology Team will support your learning throughout this period and provide you with the necessary training to perform basic clinical procedures, hearing aid repairs and advice to patients, in addition to promoting deaf awareness throughout the trust and wider community. It is hoped that the successful candidate will be motivated to continue with further training in the form of Audiologist Apprenticeship.Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience of excellent customer services and a passion for patient centred care.
