Speciality Lead Sonographer - General & Gynaecology (Band 8a)
We are looking to recruit an experienced, highly motivated, dynamic,innovative and professional individual to join an established team of Speciality Lead Sonographers as a lead for General and Gynaecological ultrasound
You must have a flexible approach to working and a desire to further developand progress the ultrasound service. You will support the operational management of the service ensuring appropriate workflows are maintained. A key component of the role is the management of in-patient flow and Rapid Access pathways to ensure optimum service delivery and effective utilisation of resource.
You will work collaboratively within the team of Speciality Lead Sonographers supporting the management team in achieving departmental goals.
You will provide leadership and support the education of Sonographers, Trainees and Support Workers.
You should hold aPost Graduate qualification in ultrasound and have extensiveclinical experience within both acute and outpatient settings. Leadership and demand management experience is essential.

Provide and facilitate an expert level of knowledge

Exercise the highest degree of professional autonomy in the decision-making process that will improve overall patient outcomes and optimum service delivery

Participate in team leadership, education, audit and develop innovative practice, identifying where service improvements can be made.

Quality and Governance processes, Datix, Quality Assurance and Protocol review

Training and student mentorship

Supporting the management team in achieving departmental goals

Supporting compliance with Turnaround Targets and Statutory requirements
About us
TheImaging Department provides a range of General Medical Ultrasound services which are managed and supported operationally from the Royal Stoke site. Clinical services are providedfrom Royal Stoke, County Stafford and multiple smaller community units. From April 2026 we will also provide services from the new Clinical Diagnostic Centre in Hanley.
The department provides out-patient services and supports our busy acute in-patient portals, plus offers a variety of sub speciality scanning including, vascular, paediatric, MSK and Head & Neck.
We are a large modern department with a variety of equipment. We are a fast paced, dynamic and vibrant department with an interesting and challenging case load. We provide a 7-day service including bank holidays on a rotational basis.
