An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month (mat cover) Specialty Doctor in Neonatal Medicine.
The post will provide an excellent chance to further develop your skills in a tertiary NICU.
There are approximately 6500 deliveries per year in the Trust. The department's Neonatology practice is diverse. We have state of the art facilities and UHNNM NICU covers a large geographical area. The NICU provides tertiary services for babies of all gestations including extreme preterm infants from 22 weeks gestation, term infants requiring therapeutic hypothermia, term infants with PPHN requiring nitric oxide. There is a well-established maternal foetal medicine service including tertiary maternal services for placenta accrete management. NICU is part of the on-site children's hospital, which has several tertiary services including paediatric respiratory, paediatric gastroenterology including an 8 bedded PICU. The NICU team work collaboratively with other paediatric subspecialty services, accessing their expertise if required.
Main duties of the job
Main clinical responsibilities of the post holder include:
- Lead tier 2 cover for the intensive care, high dependency, special care, transitional care, postnatal wards. Conducting wards rounds with consultant supervision
- Holding the emergency tier 2 bleep covering labour suite and theatres for normal deliveries, emergency and elective caesarean sections (including unexpected deliveries in the Emergency Department.
- Conducting internal transfers of babies i.e. for MRIAttending neonatal clinics with consultants
- Admission and management of neonates- including supervising tier 1 colleagues
- Providing advice to junior colleagues and supervising them with regards to management of common postnatal ward problems i.e. jaundice, hypoglycaemia etc.
- Antenatal counselling for women that present to delivery suite in threatened preterm labour

- Full GMC Registration

- Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree
- Academic and extracurricular achievements
- Additional postgraduate qualification i.e MD
Clinical Experience

- Demonstrated competence to at least ST4 level in all key neonatal areas ie. conducting neonatal clinics with supervision, antenatal counselling, experience of management of ventilated babiesevidenced within portfolio
- Minimum of 6 months experience of working on a tier 2 rota on a UK NICU
- Minimum of 4 years postgraduate experience, of which 2 years are in UK Neonatal Medicine
- NLS provider
- Child protection level 3/Child protection portfolio
