Job summary
The post holder will be required to work closely with and support the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) team across inpatient, outpatient and community areas providing direct care to young people /adults with cystic fibrosis and their families.
Main duties of the job
- Work as part of the CF team in inpatient, outpatient and community areas.
- Provide evidence based care for patients and their families attending for clinical review, port-a-cath access, long line insertion, intravenous antibiotic administration and treatment monitoring.
- Develop a clear link between patient care provided in inpatient, outpatients and community settings.
- Be actively involved in the assessment of patient's competencies related to intravenous drug reconstitution and administration and use of medical equipment.
- Facilitate the timely review, admission and discharge of patients.

- Engage in training opportunities to maintain and improve knowledge base related to CF care.
- Ensure up to date resources and guidance related to CF care are available throughout clinical areas.
- Keep abreast of issues related to the post and ensure that these are reflected in practice.
- Have an awareness of professional development needs to meet the changing needs of the CF service.
- Act as a resource for education / training and the delivery of care for staff members, patients and their families.
- Actively engage in staff training.
- Work alongside the CF team in raising awareness and contribute to the development of clinical care pathways for patients with CF.
- Contribute to a suitable learning environment for all learners within the clinical area.
- Support and contribute to the assessment of new staff in post as part of their induction programme.
- Demonstrate leadership skills in practice.
- Recognise own limitations and seek support and guidance as required.
- Education and training will be at the least diploma level, to enhance specialist knowledge in practice.
