PLEASE NOTE: This is not a laboratory-based role and the department is unable to support the IBMS certificate of competence (registration) portfolio or IBMS specialist portfolio.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and flexible person to join our anticoagulation team at Macclesfield Hospital as an Anticoagulation Practitioner (ACP).

The role involves providing a high quality anticoagulation monitoring service to patients through scientific and technical activities. You will be required to attend community locations to undertake INR measurements for our patients. The ACP is responsible for providing warfarin dosing advice to patients based on their history, concurrent medications and target range using the DAWN AC software system. The role involves both team working and lone working; the ability to manage your time and prioritise tasks under pressure will be advantageous. You will also be required to provide supervision for non-registered Anticoagulation Support Workers (ASWs) working within the team.

The post holder will be expected to maintain competence to practice and to improve professional expertise through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) as well as departmental training and competency assessments. The post holder's main base will be at Macclesfield Hospital but with a substantial part of each week spent at community clinics serving Mid, East, South Cheshire and Vale Royal. The post holder may also be required to cover at Leighton Hospital on occasion.

The term ACP encompasses state registered staff such as Biomedical Scientists, Registered Nurses, and Pharmacy Technicians working in the Anticoagulation department.
