Job summary
The UHNM Macmillan Cancer Support and Information Centre at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, and highly motivated individual to join our friendly and supportive team as a Macmillan Cancer Support and Information Officer.
This is a 12 month fixed term contractand is a secondment opportunity for internal candidates and/or for candidates employed elsewhere in the NHS

We are looking for someone who has knowledge, experience and understanding of the emotional, physical, and financial effects that impact people affected by cancer and is ready for the next step in their career and wishes to gain experience in this specialist area.

Main duties of the job
- Working autonomously, you will have direct contact with individual patients/carers/relatives and professionals to provide access to high quality information and support in relation to cancer in a variety of settings. This will include triage of individual patient needs, provision of verbal and written information , supportive listening, action planning and signposting to available services.
- you will be responsible for co-ordinating, liaising with, mentoring and training volunteers or newly-recruited staff under the guidance of the Macmillan Cancer Support and Information Services Manager (MCSISM).
- The post holder will play in key role in the day to day running of the Centres and will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of a strategic action plan and to deputise for the MCSISM during periods of annual leave and absence.
- This role will involve working creatively and collaboratively with our wider UHNM colleagues, including our Cancer Nurse Specialist teams; in addition, you will be expected to liaise with other providers and key stakeholders both locally and nationally to develop and raise the visibility of the service, and strengthen our provision of offer to people affected by cancer.
- You will be able to effectively manage your own time and workload whilst being responsive to the needs of those who access the service, therefore emotional resilience is essential. It is vital, you can adapt well and communicate effectively to any changes.
