Applications are invited for a registrar in cardiology at the University Hospitals of the North Midlands.
This position will supplement current deanery training posts and will be for 12 months , with the option to extend for a further year. This post is suitable for a doctor ST3 level (or equivalent) upwards wishing to build on cardiology experience and specialist skills. The successful candidate will contribute to the cardiology registrar on call rota, ward based inpatient care, cardiology outpatient clinics, and will have opportunities to further their training in a sub-specialty area of interest. As a major tertiary cardiac centre, UHNM is well equipped to deliver training. Within this role there will be opportunities for further training in cardiac imaging, heart failure or cardiac devices.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a team of 11 cardiology registrars (St3- St8). The principle tasks will involve:
Provision of inpatient services for cardiology, including support / supervision for the junior doctor team and regular ward rounds to ensure effective clinical management of patients admitted to cardiology at UHNM and to facilitate timely discharge of patients.
On- call duties for cardiology will include participation in a non resident partial shift rota, currently 1 in 12. On call cover for Cardiology will involve assessment and management of patients with acute cardiovascular problems from A&E, acute medicine, other specialties across UHNM and transfer from other hospitals. UHNM have a 24/7 primary PCI service which the on-call registrar will also support. UHNM have an established team of advanced specialist practitoners in cardiology which also support the care of cardiac patients in urgent care portals and across the cardiology bed base.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver transthoracic echocardiography as part of patient assessment and therefore must be proficient in emergency echo.
