Job summary

UHNM are looking for a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology. The successful candidate will work closely with the Ophthalmology Consultants who provide a first class service. A specialist interest in Oculoplastics is desirable. The Ophthalmology team undertake both surgical and clinical work following the surge of clinical activity and support the reduction of the backlog following the Covid-19 pandemic. Work will be based at both the Royal Stoke and County Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

To provide an exceptional level of care for our patients presenting with Ophthalmology problems in an outpatient and theatre environment. The appointee will join the existing Ophthalmology medical team to:

Support a comprehensive outpatient service within Ophthalmology

Treat patients with ophthalmololgy conditions

Continue clinical responsibility for patients in your charge

Work with colleagues in other professions and support inter-disciplinary work

Triage of patients and safely discharge patients, when appropriate

The job plan will be agreed with the successful candidates and will be based on a 10 PA working week.

The appointed candidate would be expected to engage with the Ophthalmology Department delivery.

Scheduling of sessions is by mutual agreement. Opportunities exist for flexible working, extended working day and expanding weekend working.

Any applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
