Job summary

This post is a new and exciting role in our Acute Renal department, the role will be based at Royal Stoke Hospital, where you will be working with a friendly but busy team.

The post holder is required to support the Medical Secretary/Team Leader in the delivery of a comprehensive administrative service to a specialty team. this includes typing clinic letters, answering phone calls, supporting Band 4 with clinic alterations. This role will also take responsibility for one of the consultants within the team which will support career progression for the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to support the Medical Secretary/Team Leader in the delivery of a comprehensive administrative service to a specialty team. This will involve management for, communicating appointment and admission related information to patients and carers and/or typing correspondence as appropriate.

The post holder will also be responsible for handling telephone and other communications with sensitivity and confidentiality using personal judgement and acquired knowledge to assess each situation and to deal with accordingly. The post holder will need to ensure that systems are in place to deliver a high standard of communication to build and maintain good working relationships.

  • There is a requirement to exchange information with patients and carers, requiring tact and diplomacy. There is also a requirement to communicate complicated information to other departments and external contacts.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will develop office and secretarial practices to continually improve service delivery. The post holder will be responsible for the timely resolution of verbal complaints, as well as have involvement in the formal complaints process in line with the Trusts Policy and Procedure for the Handling of Complaints
  • The post holder will be required to use a computer for a significant proportion of the day and concentration would be required when transcribing and/or typing complicated medical documents. Limited exposure to emotional and distressing circumstances exists and would be limited to the typing of letters of a distressing nature and contact with distressed patients.
