An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the management team within the Non-Invasive Ventilation Critical Care Unit situated at Royal Stoke.
We are a recognised tertiary centre for NIV and complex Tracheostomy weaning, taking referrals nationally from other acute Trusts and critical care facilities. We provide on-going domiciliary NIV service with Clinical Nurse Specialist expertise and a 24hour helpline with technical support when patients need us most.
Our acute service takes referrals Trust wide from the emergency portals, critical care both local and out of area, and patients directly from home. We provide an invaluable In-Reach service Trust wide for patients requiring assessment, initiation of NIV, or supportive care, enabling timely and correct intervention when the patient needs it.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as a Senior Sister/charge Nurse delivering, monitoring and evaluating current care, leading a dedicated team of specialist knowledge.
As one of the largest leading hospitals for NIV and Tracheostomy weaning, we are continually improving our service through research, education and development and firmly believe in a multi-disciplinary approach to care. Sharing best practice, we present our research to the BTS and ERS and regularly attend and present as a team at national and international mechanical ventilation conferences, utilising new knowledge to improve the quality of our care even further.
As a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse you will coordinate and lead the team on a daily basis. You will participate in innovative & evidence-based nursing practice through professional leadership and play a pivotal role in leading the clinical team to develop and deliver safe care. Working closely with the Directorate team to support the wider organisational goals and provide unit efficiencies.
This post is a full time post, working Monday - Friday 08.00am - 16.00
Essential requirements for the post are:
- First level NMC registration
- 3 years post registration experience of which 12 months have been as Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager with 18 months experience in the NIVCCU care environment
- Degree level study
- Evidence of on-going professional development
- Mentorship or equivalent qualification.
- Evidence of excellent attendance
- Excellent communication
