Senior Training Fellow in Spines (Registrar)
Fixed term for 2 years
Whilst this post is not recognised for training you will be joining our current team of 28 SpR's and 12 ST/CT lower level posts and have equal access to teaching.
You will participate fully in the Directorate's education programme and have the opportunity to build on your skills in the full range of trauma and orthopaedic services - including, trauma and elective theatres, fracture clinics, ward work. The post is for a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Main duties of the job
Key Areas/Tasks
- Assessment, diagnosis and management of all patients admitted to spine surgery.
- Management of all patients on the spinal surgery wards and any outlying wards (including critical care units).
- Request and review necessary investigation including imaging and blood tests.
- To be aware of hospital and departmental guidelines and ensure they are adhered to.
- To participate in outpatient elective and emergency spine clinics as rostered.
- To participate in elective and non-elective surgery as rostered.
- To participate in governance and administrative duties as required.
- Appropriate disposal of patients, either:
- Admission to inpatient facilities
- Discharge with suitable follow-up at the hospital
- Discharge to General practitioner
- Discharge with no follow-up

- MBBS or equivalent
- GMC registration
- MRCS or equivalent
- ATLS/ALS/PALS provider

Clinical Skills and knowledge
Essential
- Foundation and core-competencies in a surgical themed rotation or equivalent with at least 24 months of core surgical training or equivalent.
- At least 6 months experience in T&O or neurosurgery at Middle Grade level or equivalent.
- At least 6 months experience in a multiprofessional working environment
- Evidence of understanding and application of clinical care
- Able to demonstrate a knowledge of basic pre and post-operative patient management for surgical patients
- Proven participation in audit activities within the last 12 months
