Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time SACT/chemotherapy scheduler to join our team of schedulers providing a comprehensive, efficient and effective service for the chemotherapy unit with some occasional cover required at County Hospital Treatment Unit. The post will include the scheduling of treatments and supportive therapies ensuring that local and national waiting time targets are achieved.
The post will involve contacting patients and scheduling treatment, dealing with any enquiries over the phone or face to face, in a courteous and professional manner.
You will have excellent communication skills, a caring positive attitude. Reliability and flexibility are essential to the role.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility and reliability in order to contribute to the delivery of a first-class service to all users.
Main duties of the job
- To ensure all chemotherapy requests are dealt with upon receipt and that all patient details are up to date in Iportal and MedOnc prior to scheduling.
- In line with defined protocols, sort the requests into the correct priority ensuring all requests that require approval, are approved prior to scheduling.
- All requests are to be scheduled in an efficient manner, in keeping with relevant national and local targets, to reduce any delay in confirming an appointment.
- When necessary, to re-schedule appointments.
- To generate transport requests for patients where applicable.
- To have the authority working under a protocol and in consultation with the appropriate Consultant/Nurse, to overbook appointment slots.
- To liaise with Ward Manager and Directorate Managers when waiting times have reached a pre-determined level.
- To ensure that all duties are undertaken in a professional manner and the confidentiality of information is maintained at all times.
- To maintain computer-based databases or spread sheets from which data can be extracted and presented as required.
