Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Vascular at UHNM.
This is a substantive full time post in Vascular and you will work together in conjunction with 9 Vascular Consultant Colleagues; the post holder will provide a comprehensive Vascular service to UHNM .
The Vascular department sits within the directorate of General Surgery and is part of a Major Trauma Centre that serves the population of Staffordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire and North Wales.
The Directorate has a reputation for being very busy and committed to providing a comprehensive servicewhich encompasses the Staffordshire and South Cheshire Vascular Network.
The Vascular Team provides a comprehensive service to a population of 1.5 million across the county of Staffordshire, including South Cheshire under the care of South Cheshire and Vale Royal CCGs. This area is also covered by the UHNM based Staffordshire & South Cheshire AAA screening programme which was established in 2012.
Main duties of the job
As part of this role there will be a requirement to undertake a shared part in the provision of the on-call Surgical Vascular Service, currently 1:10 out of hours, ensuring that arrangements are in place for staff to contact you in emergency situations and to remain with 30 minutes travelling time when on call. All 10 surgeons also take daytime emergencies for a week at a time on a 1:10 basis as the vascular surgeon of the week on call. Consultant Vascular surgeons are free from elective commitments when on call and are supported by junior doctors (SpRs, CTs and F1s) and vascular clinical nurse specialists.
You will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services and will share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to the management of the service.

- Full registration with GMC
- FRCS or equivalent
- Entry on Specialist Register in Vascular Surgery or in U.K. training scheme and within 6 months of award of CCST at time of interview
- Success in Intercollegiate specialty examination or overseas equivalent or specialty accreditation if acquired prior to introduction of such examinations
- Entry on Specialist Register in Vascular Surgery via CESR

- MD or other Higher Degree
