Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH) site in Stoke-on-Trent for an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Band 8a. RSUH is a £350 million state of the art hospital development that, along with County Hospital in Stafford, serves the population of Staffordshire and beyond, with both local and specialist tertiary services.

The Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care unit at RSUH is a Regional Intensive Care Unit within the West Midlands Neonatal Operational Network. The birth population is 7000 deliveries per year. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a modern purpose built unit with 6 intensive care, 6 high dependency and 14 special care cots and a co-located Transitional Care Unit with 10 cots. The birth population is 7000 deliveries per year. There are 600 NICU admissions and 630 TCU admissions each year, which includes tertiary referrals from other neonatal units within and outside the West Midlands Operational Network. The unit has facilities for conventional and volume targeted ventilation, HFOV, inhaled nitric oxide, cranial ultrasonography, echocardiography and therapeutic hypothermia. There are facilities for MRI and EEG in ventilated babies and weekday neonatal surgeons on site. NICU works closely with the Fetal Medicine Department.

Main duties of the job

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is part of the UHNM Child Health Directorate, which is one of the largest in the country, with many paediatric subspecialties receiving tertiary care referrals and a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. The Directorate offers you the opportunity to develop your career aspirations via a yearly appraisal and bespoke training and development plan with access, and support from, the Directorate and Corporate Educational and Development teams. In return we are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner band 8a who, through interview and assessment, demonstrates a commitment to delivering exceptional care to babies and families.
