We are seeking a dynamic individual with either dual CCST ICM in aesthetics and a medical speciality or single CCST in ICM as a replacement for a retiring colleague. You will join our team of currently 13 ICU Consultants to enable us to deliver the highest quality Intensive Care Medicine.
The ICU Consultant team is well supported by a highly trained, experienced and well established team of 11 Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCPs).
Opportunity to accommodate potential base speciality PAs in the Intensivist job plan will be offered.
The Adult Intensive Care unit has 36 beds at Royal Stoke University Hospital. A further 16 Cardiothoracic Intensive Care beds are managed by the cardiothoracic department.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to work with other members of the ICU Team to provide first class clinical care in Adult Intensive Care. You will be required to participate in the education and training of medical students, junior doctors, Advanced Critical Care Practitioners, nursing and other professionals allied to medicine. You will provide clinical leadership, including delivery of the Clinical Quality Indicators for ICM.
Our unit was ranked as outstanding in the last CQC report.
About us
The Trust consists of two sites, the larger Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke on Trent and the smaller County Hospital situated in Stafford, about 17 miles south of Stoke. Critical Care services are only based in Royal Stoke University Hospital. The £350 million state-of-the-art hospital complex at the Royal Stoke site opened in March 2013 bringing all acute services (including Neurosurgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery) to a single site.
UHNM employs 10,300 staff based across the Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital sites. The on-site Keele Undergraduate Medical School opened in September 2002.
UHNM delivers general acute services for approximately 700.000 people living in and around Staffordshire. We are also the Major Trauma Center for 3 million people in a wider area including neighbouring counties and North Wales.

- Full registration with GMC
- FRCA/MRCP or equivalent
- Entry on Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine or in U.K. training scheme and within 6 months of award of CCT at time of interview.
- Success in Intercollegiate specialty examination or overseas equivalent EDIC or UK specialty accreditation if acquired prior to introduction of such examinations
- Advanced training in intensive care medicine through the Inter-Collegiate Board or equivalent
Desirable
- Higher Diploma in ICM or equivalent
- Additional Speciality accreditation in Anaesthesia, Acute Medicine or Respiratory Medicine, the candidate must have the prospect of an entry in the relevant specialty register at the time of commencement of post
