Job summary

The IT Infrastructure Manager has responsibility for all infrastructure operations work and ensuring the operational integrity of infrastructure and services whether delivered in-house or via service providers.

The IT Infrastructure Manager is a hands-on technical/management role - fully involved throughout transition and service delivery. The role acts as a technical point of escalation for all aspects of the technical IT infrastructure environment.

The ideal candidate must have both leadership and technical skills to effectively and efficiently manage IT Infrastructure technologies and team.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide support & training to Infrastructure Engineers & other T staff.
  • To manage the Infrastructure Engineers to carry out infrastructure tasks.
  • Liaise appropriately with external product suppliers & contractors and with other NHS & Social Care organisations, departments & divisions.
  • Lead Technical relationships with key Technical Stakeholders, communicating highly complex technical issues ensuring they are kept informed & consulted about future longterm technical strategy & developments. Engaging with non IM&T Technical teams to ensure their future direction is included in the ICT Services technical
  • Responsibility for the data centres & associated monitoring of the systems that report on performance, accessibility & availability that provides the foundation technology of the trust-wide & departmental systems.
  • Responsible for delivering complex technical projects.
  • To work collaboratively with the IM&T Senior Management team.
  • Use persuasion & negotiation skills to gain agreement where multiple options
  • Formulates the infrastructure longterm technology strategy & IT architectural principals & communicate the vision for innovation & the development of infrastructure tools that underpin the reliability, security, availability & effectiveness of the infrastructure estate.

Essential

  • Qualified to Masters Degree level or equivalent experience gained through the management of IM&T staff and services supported by qualifications in server or network deployment, support and management
  • Evidence of CPD
  • MCSE/MCSA qualification or equivalent specialist IT training e.g. Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, VMWare

Desirable

  • Recognised line management qualification
  • Project Management qualification - Prince2 Foundation
  • CISSP
  • Holds ITIL service management qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Team leader / resource management experience - delegating daily activities, work streams and projects to team members and monitoring delivery against plans.
  • Management of the "business as usual" incidents and service requests
  • Prioritisation of resource in a landscape of changing requirements to ensure maximum productivity from the team in the delivery business and clinical infrastructures.
  • Experience of managing and delivering a mission critical IT service.
  • In-depth specialist knowledge of IM&T systems and procedures
