Job summary

The post holder will have a key part in a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and IM&T professionals, tasked with implementing University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust [UHNM] electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) system.

The post holder will help support the EPMA operational group with testing, development and configuration of the EPMA system. They will also be required to provide support to Ward Managers, ward and clinical staff, assisting in developing effective and efficient workflows for the project implementation and roll-out of EPMA module across the Trust.

The post holder will support the delivery of specialist training to Registered Nurses, Consultants, Junior Doctors, Pharmacy and any other specialities who would interact with the EPMA system across the Trust, demonstrating the system to a range of forums and acting as an ambassador for the project.

The post holder will be a requirement to support the EPMA team to undertake a review of policies and SOPs, ensuring that these are re-written and ratified before implementation of the EPMA solution. The role will include identification of risks, and the production of appropriate mitigation plans

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical services to patients on the wards during EPMA implementation to provide additional cover during the transformation.

Main duties of the job

  • Plan and organise a broad range of complex activities, and will formulate and adjust plans as required in conjunction with the Project Group. This will include the planning of evaluation workshops and training events.
  • Ability to apply project management methodologies to plan and implement project deliverables and service improvements.
  • Plan review of Policies and SOPs with wards and departments, making sure that they are drafted or updated as necessary, in order to make sure that medicines prescribing and administration remains safe and complies with legislation and best practice.
  • Have Current NMC Registration
  • Degree in Health/Nursing related studies or equivalent
  • Have experience of implementing or use of an ePMA system
  • Have experience of teaching and assessing
  • Formal leadership and management training
  • Project management knowledge and experience of cross-organisational projects
  • Minimum of 5 years post registration experience
  • Ability to lead change and lead new ways of working
  • Evidence of using patient process redesign and/or other techniques to improve services
  • Write and update policies and Standard Operating Procedures which will be required for the introduction of EPMA.
