Senior Clinical Fellow - Respiratory

Job summary

This is an exciting time to join Respiratory Medicine at SWFT . The Department is developing on multiple areas. An EBUS service is expected to start soon (equipment already purchased). A Biologics service for severe asthma (potentially also for COPD) is also expected to start soon. We are also about to start Lung Cancer Screening service for the local community. In addition, extensive discussions are in progress to have a comprehensive Sleep service, currently, a Diagnostics service is place, but plan is to expand to include treatment service soon.

Main duties of the job

This is an important appointment and the post holder would be expected to provide senior level cover to In inpatients, outpatients, work together with consultants and other professionals to continue to deliver a first-rate service, and assist the major developments planned for the department as mentioned above. It is expected that the post holder will have ample opportunity to develop professional knowledge and skills in essential aspects of Respiratory Medicine

Job description

Job responsibilities

1) To support the inpatient service in Respiratory at Warwick Hospital

Inpatients (Mary Ward)There is a specialist respiratory ward with twenty-five beds, one negative pressure room, two single and two double side rooms. There is a procedure room where day case procedures such as pleural aspiration are performed. There are NIV machines for the care of acute COPD patients. The new appointee will carry out regular ward rounds and help other juniors in running the in-patient unit efficiently. He/she will also maintain daily contact to ensure patients progress to plan.

2) OUTPATIENT WORKLOAD/SERVICE

a. Outpatient clinics are held in the general outpatient department, with Respiratory physiology support in the same area. There are separate clinics for patients with lung cancer and Tuberculosis, ILD and Bronchiectasis. The lung cancer MDT is run weekly, with surgical opinion via video link from Coventry.

There is a lung function lab staffed by two whole time equivalent physiologists with a wide range of tests available including basic lung function, body plethysmography, home polysomnography / oximetry, bronchoprovocation, hypoxic challenge and cardio-pulmonary exercise testing.

The respiratory nurse specialists run an efficient LTOT / Ambulatory oxygen / admission prevention service for patients with COPD and other patients with end stage respiratory disease. There is a well organised pulmonary rehabilitation program which runs both at the hospital and at several centres in the community.
