Job summary

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a dynamic, committed, visionary Locum Consultant Medical Oncologists to support Acute Oncology, Urology, and Cancer of the Unknown Primary Oncology for a 24-month period. However, other subspecialty roles will be considered.

The post is based at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust currently holds a service level agreement with the Oncology department at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust to facilitate visiting Oncology consultants. The principal duties of the post will provide Acute oncology services and will include 5.5 PA's of acute oncology totalling 10PAs.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will work in site specific local MDTs at SWFT and contribute to the cancer management of patients including providing consultant oncologist support to the nurse-led Acute Oncology service as well as mentorship.

The Aylesford Unit serves the whole of South Warwickshire covering a population of approximately 536,000. We are part of the West Midlands Clinical Network; population approximately 6.3 million.

Outpatients, chemotherapy and other day case patients are managed in the Aylesford Unit and Rigby Unit (opening July 2017). The Aylesford Units activity for oncology patient 2016-2017 was over 1000 first attendances and 9,500 follow up patients. The unit is nurse-led and nurse led clinics are held every day for chemotherapy reviews, consent and pre chemotherapy education and emergency clinics as part of acute oncology.

There is an established team of seven visiting Clinical Oncologists and one visiting Medical Oncologist.

The department benefits from use of the Electronic Oncology management system (MOSAIQ) which facilitates e records, e scheduling and e prescribing across Coventry and Warwickshire.
