Paediatric Diabetes Assistant Practitioner/ Nurse Associate

Job summary

We are looking for a self-motivated Diabetes Assistant Practitioner to join the paediatric Diabetes Team and support our Specialist Diabetes Nurses to deliver a high quality service to infants, children and adolescents in Warwickshire with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a health, social care or education setting.

This post will be based at Warwick Hospital, with both inpatients and outpatients, as well as office based computer work. This includes the use of Microsoft Word/ Teams, and Excel, as well as various digital platforms to support the ever increasing number of technologies used by the patients for glucose monitoring and insulin delivery.

Main duties of the job

The main focus of the Paediatric Diabetes Assistant Practitioner/Nurse Associate will be to:

  • To support and work alongside the paediatric diabetes team and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Undertake direct care with children, young people and their families in the management of diabetes as a condition
  • Undertake clerical and administrative duties for the service as required with involvement in local, regional and national data collection
  • Have involvement in stock maintenance, cleaning, and management of equipment including insulin pumps including supporting children and young people and their parents and carers to learn the usage of these and in the use of the electronic platforms for the equipment.

To be innovative in the development of activity and group event programmes.

To empower and motivate children, young people and their families in the development of practical and problem solving skills and strategies to improve self-management of their diabetes care needs.

To support Flash Glucose/Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) and My Life technology starts.

  • Good general education or Equivalent experience gained through NHS work
  • Post basic qualifications to NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Foundation Degree in health and Social Care (Assistant Practitioners)
  • Basic Maths, English and IT skills

  • Nursing Associate Foundation Degree and Registered on the NMC Register (Nursing Associates)
  • ECDL or equivalent Specific Paediatric Diabetes Courses.
