Professional/Clinical
Under the supervision of a clinical trainer, commence training as a Nurse Hysteroscopist in accordance with The British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopists (BSGE), Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust and University of Bradford regulations.
Contribute towards and liaise with the multi-professional Hysteroscopy/ cancer team in the management of patient caseload, referring on as required.
Manage a patient caseload, providing expert assessment, evaluation and treatment within Hysteroscopy care.
Supporting the Hysteroscopy clinics in accordance with national guidelines and local protocols.
With support, and in collaboration with the Hysteroscopy clinicians, act as an advocate to the patient when relevant and informed during discussions about treatment and management options.
Contribute to changes in clinical practice that will improve the standards of care.
Promote general health and wellbeing to patients and their relatives.
Represent the Nurse Hysteroscopist when required at clinical meetings.
Supporting clinical excellence.
To provide support to patients via telephone when required.
To attend a BSGE recognised National meeting at least once every 2 years.
Maintain an identifiable clinical presence within the department and undertake relevant clinical activities.
Responsible for ensuring equipment is cleaned stored and maintained.
Ensure a patient-focused, multi-professional approach to care in collaboration with patients, carers, healthcare professionals and other agencies.
Ensure clinical documentation is completed accurately, appropriately and in a timely manner.
Develop, monitor and maintain standards or care in accordance with Trust policies, guidelines, protocols and professional regulations.
Monitor the quality and effectiveness or the services provided by the organisation according to hysteroscopy standards and guidelines and take appropriate actions to address any shortfalls of escalate appropriately.
Ensure that operational policies and quality management systems are implemented across the programme (in conjunction with clinical and operational leads) Responsible for the care needs of the women attending gynaecology services and providing holistic nursing care.
Support evidence based practice.
Leadership
Clinical responsibility to ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care is maintained.
Support and represent the views of the hysteroscopy nurses, support staff within hysteroscopy.
Ensure correct reporting of all incidents according to Trust policy.
Ensure continuous improvement of service provision by maintaining current/up to date knowledge of best practice and by creating an environment of trust and respect.
Maximise opportunities to share good practices and innovations with colleagues both locally and nationally.
Attend local and regional meetings as appropriate.
Produce, validate and present local and regional reports as required.
Ensure all staff working in hysteroscopy have access to appropriate mandatory training and development.
Education
In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, participate in the continuing development of the hysteroscopy services. That includes patient centred evidence-based programmes of care and a continuous quality improvement programme.
Participate in the development and implementation of the multi-professional standards and clinical protocols for Hysteroscopy services.
Participate in the educational provision of information for women and their partners/ families so that they are empowered to manage their condition and seek appropriate help and advice.
With support, will act as an educational resource for members of the multidisciplinary team and for other health professionals within the department and Trust.
With support and close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to participate in informal educational programmes for staff, including undergraduates, nursing and medical staff.
Act as a resource for the Trust.
Update and maintain own competencies and development, including appropriate conferences, study days and training.
Promote health education and holistic patient care using all appropriate resources.
Responsible for ensuring that mentoring and teaching to support staff education and learning is in place.
Research and Audit
Participate in collaborative research projects that improve the quality of care and health outcomes.
Participate in audit activities to assess and monitor the quality of care and assist in the implementation of change based on the findings.
Participate in the dissemination of information acquired through research, audit and study by pursuing all opportunities to feedback to other staff within the department and Ambulatory Services.
Audit own caseload and participate in the annual evaluation feedback, sharing results with other hysteroscopists.
Assist in the provision, checking and verification of data for the Department of Health (KC65s) and Oxford Cancer Intelligence Unit (Evaluation Strategy) in a timely manner.
Promote and expand the use of information technology in the delivery of patient care.
Responsible for ensuring audit of local performance to measure and compare practice with the defined national standards.
Review the evidence base for practice within this speciality. Disseminate and act on findings that will lead to improved patient care, knowledge and management options.
Responsible for demonstrating patient satisfaction within the hysteroscopy service delivery through regular audit.
Regularly participates in clinical audit projects to monitor trends in hysteroscopy at local level, utilising findings to influence practice.
Ensure that recommendations are implemented and lesson shared from any incidents.
Address patient concerns, working with the Patient Advisory and Liaison Service (PALS) and patient forums. Investigate complaints, produce investigation reports and prevent reoccurrence.
Ensure that quality standards are set and monitored and that clinical risk management and clinical audit are an integral part of the ward/department function.
Implement evidence based guidance to prevent and control hospital acquired infection.
Communicate effectively with the multi-professional team to support patient care and service delivery.
