Job summary

The Estates Department provides a comprehensive maintenance repair and installation service of building, grounds, engineering services and associated equipment throughout the Trust.

To undertake a wide range of Mechanical, Electrical and Building Maintenance duties of a semi-skilled nature. To be able to work as part of a team and act autonomously with minimum supervision, guided by departments standard operating procedures and advice notes.

Main duties of the job

To be a member of the Estates Department carrying out minor repair, maintenance and installation of mechanical, electrical equipment or building fabric. Internal and external fittings and fixtures and all external site work across the Trust Estate, liaising with Estates staff, Nursing staff and Administration staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Minor repair, maintenance and installation of mechanical/electrical equipment including internal/external fittings to buildings and building work.

To undertake driving duties on a range of vehicles covered by a standard driving licence as and when required by the Estate.

To assist higher skilled grades on new work and repairs.

To clear blockages from sinks, drains, toilets and manholes.

To check and maintain mixing valves, replacing where necessary. Carrying out temperature checks.

To regularly check calorifiers including temperature checks, cleaning of emptying and refilling.

To carry out repairs on beds, trolleys and wheel chairs.

To clean air conditioning units, grilles and vents.

To maintain lighting installation including the replacement of faulty lamps and cleaning light fittings.

To regularly check and monitor levels of cleanliness, keeping various areas clean and tidy including plant rooms, oil tank areas, work shop and mess room.

To replace and repair fixtures that are broken or faulty including taps, toilets, baths, sinks, basins and sluices.

To repair and/or assemble furniture, shelving and racking.

To clean and maintain guttering and gullies.

To remove beds and locate and locate in various areas (Bed store).

To regularly read and record various meters.

To assist with the testing of fire alarms.

To maintain hospital grounds and gardens including mowing lawns and keeping borders tidy and weed free.

To undertake a wide range of painting, decorating and building maintenance duties.

Sweep and tidy paths and car parks.

To check and clean grease traps.

To undertake such other appropriate responsibilities and/or duties as may be directed by your seniors.

General

Undertake unsupervised routine maintenance which requires minimal training including labouring duties as required.

Use relevant tools and equipment.

Demonstrate basis knowledge of workshop safety practises.
