Ward Manager - Fairfax Frailty Assessment Unit

Job summary

An exciting 12 month fixed term contract opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Ward Manager for Fairfax Ward at Warwick Hospital. This 15 bedded assessment area is used to pull Frailty patients from the Emergency Department with a view to discharge. There is a huge emphasis on same day emergency care and thinking creatively to help provide care in patients homes, avoiding hospital admission. Applicants will need a strong knowledge of capacity and flow, as well as excellent nursing care and a sound understanding of integrated working with our fantastic community teams.

The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and have a solid band 6 ward or assessment area experience. Responsibilities include supporting and developing staff whilst maintaining your own clinical and leadership skills. Commitment is vital to create an environment where patients are shown care and compassion reflecting the values of our Trust.

You will be required to lead and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure patient reach their rehabilitation potential. Manage patient flow, maintain safe staffing levels, deliver effective care and review incidents/complaints/audits. Applicants must hold intermediate life support skills or equivalent.

Develop and lead a team that seeks to actively resolve compliant/concerns at local level ensuring appropriate escalation of complaints, clinical incidents or near misses.

Participate in patient acuity studies measuring patient dependency and nurse to bed ratio.

Foster and embed a patient safety culture and participate in national and local patient safety work streams or campaigns to improve the patients environment and experience such as Patient Safety Thermometer.

Develop and maintain cohesive multidisciplinary working relationships which focus on individualised patient care that facilitates a care management plan and a safe and timely discharge.
