Job summary

We are looking for an energetic, friendly person to join our team and co-ordinate the day to day operations in Cafe Lomas and the Lomas Suite at The Health and Wellbeing Information Centre at Stratford Hospital.

You will need to have hands on experience and be flexible. You will oversee the day-to-day running of the cafe and hospitality in the Lomas Suite, whilst helping to create a friendly, relaxing and professional environment. Along with helping us to grow the business, you will be responsible for our Front of House staff. A team player who can work alongside volunteers, staff, patients and visitors to the hospital, with outstanding communication and customer service skills.

Whilst ensuring that we meet high standards in all aspects of cleanliness, allergen information and H&S, our ideal candidate will have the ability to implement improvements and have a natural and creative interest in food and healthy eating whilst utilising local suppliers where possible. You will need to be a compassionate and personable individual who thrives on their days being full of variety. It is a vibrant community space with a firm focus on the health and wellbeing of all our customers.

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose:

The Health and Wellbeing Information Centre (HWIC) provides a welcoming environment where information is available on a wide range of supportive services available to the population of Stratford-upon-Avon and South Warwickshire. This is a community space serving the people in our community, working in partnership with local charities and groups. Based at Stratford Hospital the Health and Wellbeing Information Centre comprises of The Information Centre, Cafe Lomas and Lomas Suite.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of healthy, seasonal menus and appropriate retail offerings for service in Cafe Lomas and Lomas Suite. Cafe Lomas is a, healthy living, community focused food and drink provider situated in the Health and Wellbeing Information Centre at Stratford hospital.

This is a hands on role which includes cooking as well as overseeing the day to day running of Cafe Lomas, its staff and the provision of hospitality in the Lomas Suite. The role will require you to be creative using local produce (where possible) to prepare, cook and serve seasonal dishes. With a firm focus on budget, waste and stock control.

You will also be responsible for the ordering of all retail stock items.

The Health and Wellbeing Information Centre Manager is responsible for the overall running of the Centre but on a day-to-day basis you will be supervising the Front of House Assistant, coordinating volunteers and reporting to the Volunteering & HWIC Coordinator.

To produce a seasonal menu, order, cook and serve food items and beverages, including hospitality in line with Trust policy to patients, visitors and staff.

Ensuring the Health and Wellbeing Information Centre is clean and ready for service and monitored throughout the day.

Preparation of menu items in readiness of service times.

Ensure food is freshly baked, cooked and prepared and served to order.

Coordinate day to day administration including cash handling, using an EPOS till and card machine, and end of day process for balancing sales and receipt.

Responsible for the ordering and receipt of supplies and retail stock and filing of invoice delivery notes.

Carry out weekly audits in line with Trust procedures.

To follow the monitoring systems as detailed in the HACCP

Responsible for stock levels, rotation and the ordering of replacement items.

Ensure cleaning schedules are followed and recorded and that clean as you go rules are followed, ensuring the kitchen, front of house and HWIC (including the Lomas Suite) are clean and tidy at all times.

To report discovered defects within the Cafe Lomas area.

To be responsible for the safe, correct and economical use of equipment including the electronic cash register, coffee barrister machine and adhering to training given and standing financial instructions.

To ensure a polite and courteous service and always be aware of the customers needs and special requirements.

Ensure allergen and dietary information is kept up to date, recorded and available for audit and accessible to customers at all times.

To adhere to all Trust policy, Food Hygiene Policy and associated codes of practice and Food Hygiene legislation.

To assist with the Front of House caf/kitchen with its day-to-day administration including: cash handling and ordering of supplies using telephone and on line ordering systems

To monitor and collate customer requests and feedback using the documentation as instructed.

Oversee the work of staff or volunteers for which you will be responsible, delegating tasks as appropriate.

To report any injury or accident to self or others to the HWIC Manager.

Ensure all work procedures are in line with the good practice of The South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust and data protection rules are adhered to.

To be aware of the conditions associated with a working kitchen, physical, hot and exposed to dirt, dust and noise. Wearing PPE at all times.

To adhere to all Trust policy, Food Hygiene Policy and associated codes of practice and Food Hygiene legislation.

The post will require a degree of flexibility and may occasionally require evening or weekend working.
