Job summary
The Senior Cloud & Server Engineer will assist the Cloud & Server Lead and Architect in the development of modern, reliable, 999 Cloud & Server solutions for the Trust.
The Senior Cloud & Server Engineer will work closely with the Cloud & Server Lead to ensure that appropriate technical resources are trained and then aligned to work streams, to ensure a seamless and consistent delivery of Cloud & Server services to agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA's) and technical standards.
As well as being an experienced Senior Cloud & Server Engineer the role is a "hands on" technical role which requires extensive experience. Please see the job description for more details.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Cloud & Server Engineer will require a working knowledge of Cloud & Server technologies as listed above.
Assist in the translation of business requirements for Cloud & Server services into technical deliverables within the Cloud & Server environment, considering industry trends and opportunities; proactively working with the wider Cloud & Server engineering team.
Ensure that all Systems and/or Services are configured and monitored to provide useful data to capacity plan, performance monitor and to enable in/out of hours alerting in the event of agreed thresholds being breached or an outage occurring.
Support the Lead Cloud & Server Engineer and Architect in developing, setting and measuring performance against Trust wide Capacity and Availability plans in line with agreed Service requirements against agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
The post holder will ensure the use of IT Tools/Tool sets is optimised across all the Cloud & Server team to maximise effectiveness, efficiency and service availability.
Establish and develop meaningful and mutually beneficial business relationships with technology vendors and suppliers, to ensure that the Trust has access to timely third-party support to address its business needs.
Requirement for prolonged concentration when working on Cloud & Server implementation, support, testing and issue resolution.
Frequent working in Data Centres with exposure to a highly intense sensory environment, extremes of temperatures and noise.

Demonstrate good analytical skills, the Senior Cloud & Server Engineer will support the Lead Cloud & Server Engineer to identify the technical requirements for new Systems or Services requiring network connectivity both internally and with other NHS and private health care providers. They will work on delivering a design pack (including but not limited to a high-level design, low level design, high level project plans and work packages ensuring the correct specialist skills sets and resource allocation is identified in advance of any project work commencing).
The Senior Cloud & Server Engineer will deliver new solutions and promote upgrades to existing solutions in accordance with approved designs based on industry (ITIL) / supplier guidelines, including solution testing.
The role requires an awareness of Cloud and Infrastructure (server) concepts to enable efficient communication with the Cloud & Infrastructure Team and the ability to deliver solutions with both server and networking technologies in mind.
The Senior Cloud & Server Engineer throughout the implementation phase, for all projects will work closely with the Lead Cloud & Server Engineer and assist in the mentorship of the wider DDaT Teams and create efficient and effective documentation as well as ensuring all team members can support the solution both in and out of hours post go live.
The Senior Cloud & Server Engineer will assist in identifying areas for efficiency and cost saving through commissioning and decommissioning of systems and/or Services.
Ensure the delivery of core services and projects which have a cloud and server component are delivered within agreed quality standards for Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) and are delivered to agreed timelines.
Deliver to all Service Definitions (Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Service Levels: providing accurate RTO/RPO and Technical Documentation.
Working with a diverse range of suppliers to ensure best value for the Trust by keeping the delivery of solutions and/or Services are to agreed timelines.
Have developed and demonstrable Hands on working knowledge across a broad spectrum of network infrastructure such as: On Premise, Cloud Services, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environments. To support Major Incident investigations, Second and/or Third line Problem and/or Incident investigation and/or resolution.
Through Continuous Service Improvement (CSIP) report efficiencies and suggest enhancements to the services provided by the network team.
Demonstrate sound judgement when analysing complex interpersonal or technical issues.
Ensure all Cloud & Server risks are identified and escalated according to the Trusts Risk Management policies and procedures.
Working closely with Service Delivery Managers to implement, and suggest changes, to policy and procedures for all Services and/or Solutions impacting own area.
Work together with the Lead and Architects to help shape future designs and play a key part in the technology direction.
Complete, at least annually, a mutually beneficial appraisal, setting challenging but realistic objectives for their future in line with the Trusts performance management policy.
Act as one of the out of hours (24*7*365) Cloud and Server Engineer on Call to support DDaT out of hours activities, typically this 1:3 or 1:4 weeks/month including bank holidays, etc. and is additionally remunerated to basic salary.
Where SC clearance is refused or rescinded, the Trust reserves the right to terminate the contract of employment.

- Degree, HNC, HND with a Distinction or equivalent qualification in a relevant IT/ technical discipline.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
- A Prince II Practitioner with or without a lapsed accreditation.
