The post holder will be a registered nurse or paramedic with a higher education qualification in patient assessment, minor injuries and minor illness (or equivalent).

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, treatment and discharge of scheduled and unscheduled cases with an urgent or primary care nature and assessment initial treatment and escalation of emergency cases for patients of all ages.

On occasion (in the absence of the operations manager, non-medical prescriber or GP) the post holder will take charge of the day to day running of the Urgent Treatment Centre and will manage general enquiries, staffing issues, complaints and support junior staff (HCAs and administrative staff) as required.

The post holder will assist with the development of clinical services as required.

To be considered for a Band 7 role, the post holder must have the prescribing qualification.

Main duties of the job

  • Initial treatment of emergency cases
  • Referral of complex cases to specialist at the Acute Hospital.
  • Referral of routine cases to patients own GP or improved access GP.
  • Escalation to the UTC GP as required.
  • Referral to and supervision of the Healthcare Assistants.
  • Provide support of the reception and admin staff.
  • Provide support to ambulance crews as required.

You will be well supported by a friendly clinical and administrative team. Induction and training will be provided. SWASFT will also provide your medical indemnity.

This is an evolving role within the Trust as is subject to change and development as required by the organisation.
