Job summary
Lead Paramedic L&D will provide preceptorship to graduate Paramedics employed by the Trust and will work operationally with new joiners following their induction to ensure the necessary standards are adopted.
The LP L&D will be managed by Operations but work with direction and support also from the Learning and Development .
As experienced paramedics (at least two years post qualifying as a Paramedic, as well as being a band 6 Paramedic) they will be expected to undertake the assessment and clinical development of staff within the NQP process, ECA's during their probation period and new joiners (scheduled work). They will also work with staff under the guidance of specific action plans. When working with members of staff during routine scheduled work, where no specific action plan has been developed, the LP L&D will be expected to assess the clinician's ability to work competently and safely within their current scope of practice and in accordance with Trust guidelines. Lead Paramedic L&D will either follow an operational rostered line or work on a relief basis (to be agreed locally) and facilitate the mentorship of staff undergoing remedial training and/or action plans set by Learning and Development Officers.

Main duties of the job
Lead Paramedic L&D will support new joiners and work with them on their early operational shifts following the Trusts formal induction and preceptorship packages to ensure that new staff are supported appropriately.
Referrals from LDOs/OO
Referrals may follow from restrictions of practice, LDO would be consulted in the first instance. On receipt of the Learning Development Referral form the LDO will then complete a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and provide an action plan for the LP L&D to follow with the member of staff. T
Newly Qualified Paramedics
All newly qualified paramedics (NQPs) will be required to work with an LP L&D at least once during the first 2 months of their consolidation of learning period, and then again between 3-6 months. Transferees will, ideally, work with an LP L&D soon after induction. ECAs will receive quarterly probation shifts (two shifts within their first 6 months of
Operational deployment) with an LP L&D until their sign off by an OO.
Return to work including phased return to work.
Clinicians returning to work from extended periods of sickness, maternity or other absence may be required to work with an LP L&D for a shift dependant on the length and reason for their absence in order to support individuals back to work.
