Job summary

The Network Engineer (NE) role is a technical position, suitable for candidates starting their career in networking.

The role requires knowledge of networking technologies and vendors such as Cisco and Fortinet.

This role requires knowledge of the following technologies and/or skills:

Switching technologies: STP, VLAN

Routing protocols: TCP, UDP, RIPv2, EIGRP, OSPF

Wireless

Firewall concepts

Experience of the following would also be beneficial:

999 or patient care systems within the NHS

Ambulance Service functions, including back-office

Microsoft Windows

Mobile devices (e.g. Apple IOS, Android)

The post holder, as part of the Network Team, will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the network estate, to include configuration, installation, changes, break/fix and decommissioning of physical assets.

The post holder will work closely with the Network Team (Network Architect, Lead Network Engineer, Senior Network Engineers) in completing work packages and resolving network issues.

Main duties of the job

Configuration and maintenance of the SWAST clinical hub network

Configuration of hub network infrastructure using templates and tools such as Cisco DNA

Configuration of firewalls, including VPN, DMZ and remote worker.

Configuration of station networks using Cisco Meraki.

Physical installation or removal of network devices.

Installation and removal of structured cabling, including copper and fibre cables.

Troubleshooting network issues

Network Monitoring using Solarwinds

Ensure network documentation is kept up to date, including diagrams in MS Visio, IP spreadsheets and patch records using MS Excel and procedures in MS Word.
